Star India Announces An Organisational Restructuring

Broadcast major Star India today announced an organisational restructuring elevating Uday Shankar as it’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, while creating five business units to accelerate growth.

As part of the change, Star India said it has elevated Chief Operating Officer, Sanjay Gupta as Managing Director and K. Madhavan as Managing Director South.

Both Sanjay Gupta and K. Madhavan will continue to report to the Star India Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Uday Shankar, the company said in an official statement.

We are proud of its success and look forward to the next chapter of growth under Uday’s transformational leadership.” stated James Murdoch, Chief Executive Officer of 21st Century Fox in his official statement.

Under the new structure, Amit Chopra will be the Chief Operating Officer of Entertainment, which spans drama and movie channels across national and regional channels in Hindi, English, Bengali and Marathi, the company added.

Nitin Kukreja will be the Chief Operating Officer of Sports, which includes a portfolio of channels under the Star Sports banner, while Ajit Mohan has been appointed as Chief Operating Officer of Digital, which oversees Hotstar, Star’s digital platform, which recently surpassed 50 million downloads.

Vijay Singh, has been appointed the Chief Operating Officer of Fox Star Studios, which produces and distributes Bollywood and regional films, while Kevin Vaz has been appointed as Chief Operating Officer of South, reporting to K. Madhavan.

The south business unit incorporates all of Star’s business interests in the Southern states of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

Star India also said it will set up a pan-India Content Studio to drive innovation in programming under Gaurav Banerjee who reports into Sanjay Gupta. The Corporate Centre will continue largely unchanged.

Star India broadcasts over 40 channels in eight different languages, which include Star World, Star Gold, Channel V, Star Movies, Star Utsav, Life OK, Movies OK and Star Plus.
